Three Decades of Friendship
I sometimes join them in countryside for some fresh air and a coffee, to which he likes adding a dash of his home-made anisette, and on these occasions we discuss and plan the next season’s menu and the produce we would require for it.
My Father Abdul Rahman Harb and Paul Abela have been close friends over thirty years; they share their love and passion towards farming and local produce.
Paul has a wide land in Rabat, Tas-Salib where he plants most of the middle Eastern produce for us such as bamia (okra) Quince, chillies and moulughia (jews mellow), lemons, lime, Maltese bidni olives and carob.
I always learn new words and new techniques about planting, harvesting and seasons – it feels like home hearing them them joke and chat about both countries and cultures.
